TEACHING

BSC 2010 -- Principles of Integrative Biology, every fall. I teach cell biology and animal physiology for the first half of this course every fall. The course is offered through coordinated efforts by the Departments of Zoology and Botany, a collaboration mediated by the Office of Biological Sciences. The course is aimed at science majors interested in biology and pre-professional training. Course downloads are available on the course website.

ZOO 6927 -- Evolution of Brain Size, SP 2006. The course is a broad survey of literature on the evolution of brain size, integrating ecological and evolutionary approaches with principles of neuroscience and gene expression. It is intended to provide an introduction to natural diversity in brain function for neuroscience students, and an introduction to behavioral neuroscience for students in ecology and evolution.

ZOO 4926/6927 -- Mechanisms of Animal Behavior, SP 2005, 2007. This is a course aimed at upper division undergraduates in zoology and neuroscience, and at graduate students in zoology and behavioral neuroscience. The first offering of the course was in Spring 2005. I plan to offer this class every other spring. Graduate students interested in animal behavior are suggested to take both this course and Behavioral Ecology, offered in alternating years. In its first offering, the class focused on behavioral endocrinology. The topics will broaden in subsequent years.

ZOO 4926, 6927 -- Evolution of Gene Regulation, SP 2005. This is a graduate seminar in which we survey the mechanisms of transciptional regulation and the literature on molecular evolution. I co-taught the course with Dr. Marta Wayne.
