Students had the chance to inspect their copy of the fourth exam and scantron at the end of Spring term. Fourth exams can also be inspected during the first two weeks of classes in Fall 1999 during Dr. Osenberg's office hours. Students interested in seeing their first three exams should have done so previously (prior to the end of class). Copies and keys to all four exams are available via the course web page (see below for Exams 3 and 4; see above "First Half" for Exams 1 and 2).

Practice Exam 4 (w/ answers from Spring 1997
-- you need Acrobat Reader to view this file: see below)
What to study for Exam 4:
85% will come from lecture and discussion (and comparable material in text);
15% will come exclusively from the text (i.e., material not covered in
lecture). You are responsible for Chapters 47-49 in the text; all
lectures from March 30th - April 28th; Discussions from April 9th and 16th.
Calculators: If you want, you may use a calculator on Exam 4. However, I do not recommend bringing a calculator. In most cases, you'll be able to answer questions without any calculations at all. In some cases, you'll be required to do simple multiplication and addition (on Exam 3, the most complex calculation you needed to do was 5/2=2.5, and .5 x .5 x .5=.125). I have found that students who use calculators rely upon them as a crutch and try to calculate an answer even in cases when the answer cannot be calculated but instead must be found by clearly thinking about the problem. As a result, the student gets misdirected by relying on their calculator. This is your choice, but a calculator will NOT be necessary to successfully complete the exam.
Scores for Exams 1, 2 and 3.
Exam 3 (this is a pdf file: to view and print
the exam, you'll need Acrobat Reader, which is available free from Adobe's
website).
