Examinations and Grading

Midterm I: Friday, February 7 (covers work through Chapter 16)
Midterm II: Wednesday, February 26 (covers work through Chapter 22)
Midterm III: Friday, March 28
Final: Wednesday, April 30 (8:30 - 9:30 a.m., location TBA)

All machine graded exam questions must be answered in a #2 or softer pencil. (Bring several pencils to all exams).

If you feel anxiety about taking exams, check out: Dealing with Test Anxiety,
put out by the UF Counseling Center. Or, this Self Help Guide may help.

Details about tests and grading:

1) The four tests will carry equal weight (100 points each). Your grade will be based on the total number of points you achieve (total possible for the course = 400 points).

2) Each test, including the final, will be scheduled for 50 minutes and will consist of 35 questions with multiple choice type answers.

3) The course we give builds on previous knowledge both from BSC 2010 and from earlier lectures in BSC 2011. Students should expect questions in the second and later tests to use knowledge and understanding gained at earlier stages of the course.

4) Again, because the course builds on previous knowledge you are advised that if you miss a class, you should read the relevant chapter in Campbell and study the notes of a fellow student before the next lecture. Otherwise there will be a high probability that you will not understand that lecture.

5) The final exam will test work covered in the fourth section of the course. It will not be a comprehensive examination other than in the sense outlined in 3 above.

6) We will use a scale that: a) does not predetermine the proportion of A's, B's, etc. b) does not assume that this semester's class is of the same quality as last semester's. It may be better and we want to allow for this. c) does not assume that the tests we give are of the same standard as those given previously or those to be given in the future

7) You will not be given estimated grades after the three 'mid-term' tests. These could be misleading. You will be able to judge your performance vis-à-vis the rest of the class by comparing your points with the class distribution. You will be shown the distribution for each test and the accumulated distributions after tests two, three and four.
