Current Projects:
Currently, much of my research focuses on how principles of individual energetics can be used to better understand ecological and evolutionary processes at different scales. In many cases, this falls under the category of “macroecology”. Please refer to my publications for more information.

Andrew Hein
I am interested in how spatial and temporal processes interact to drive patterns in biological networks. Among other things, I study spatial and temporal dynamics of ephemeral pond metacommunities in Florida. I am interested in determining whether the spatial arrangement of ephemeral pools creates predictable patterns of local community structure across the landscape. Additionally, I study how immigration and in situ reproduction interact to determine the timing of changes in food web structure.

Ariel Zimmerman
I am broadly interested in how resource distribution generates patterns in behavioral and reproductive ecology across species. In particular, I am interested in how organisms solve the problem of temporally or spatially clustered resources (i.e. food, mates, social groups). I use a combination of theoretical modeling and empirical research to address these questions in a variety of organisms, though my empirical research relies heavily on terrestrial invertebrates.

Katrina Keirsted
Current Projects:
Katrina is interested in animal migration and foraging. She is currently working on a project that seeks to explore the energetic basis of animal movements.

Ashkaan Fahimipour
Ashkaan is interested in how local and regional processes affect food web structure. He is leading a research project to relate habitat age, isolation, and nutrient levels to food web structure in ephemeral ponds in north central Florida.
