Department of Entomology and Nematology: Dr. Daniel A. Hahn

Research Interests: Briefly, I am interested in the evolution of physiological specializations for marine habitat use in reptiles. To this end, I conduct comparative studies of osmoregulation in closely related marine and freshwater snakes (current study species: Laticauda colubrina, L. laticaudata, L. semifasciata; Nerodia clarkii, N. fasciata). Specifically I am interested in the development and function of specialized salt-secreting tissues and the osmoregulatory tactics employed by those species without specialized salt-secreting tissues.
